Last Saturday Dustin and I headed down to San Francisco to meet Lauren and Mark and shoot their engagement pictures. Lauren had contacted me not too long ago about photographing her wedding in San Martin and the Lodge at Corde Valle in September. Of course I jumped at the chance! I love to travel a little for weddings, and love the challenge of a venue I’ve never even seen. I honestly think I take better pictures when I don’t know much about the place I’m shooting. I think it makes me look harder, and I like that.

We decided to meet in San Francisco as that is where Mark proposed to beautiful Lauren. He asked for her hand on the Golden Gate bridge, and so going back to the city where she said yes was a no brainer.

We started this happy pair out with a glass of wine and appetizers at McCormick and Schmidt’s Seafood restaurant in Ghiradelli Square. Then we were off to the water front, and as many strange little places as I could find. We had a blast, and Lauren was a trooper in her high heel shoes.

Lauren and Mark are awesome, and so very in love. It was an absolute pleasure photographing this beautiful couple. They seriously have the BEST smiles. I can’t wait for their wedding in September! Check their slideshow out for more awesome pictures!

Engagement pictures are like the frosting on the yummy cake that is my job. Not to say that my job is EASY as much as it is TASTY, and to me engagement sessions are the number one most yummiest part of being a photographer. I get to go to cool places, and do cool things with really cool people, and that makes me ever so happy.

Last week my dearest most beautiful and beloved Jen from The Memory Journalists came and photographed Alycia and Mario’s engagement session with me so she could see the inner workings of a Sarah Maren Photography photo shoot. Plus, we are both Nikon shooters, and she has some bitchin’ lenses I needed to play with. So we met up at my place and then all four of us headed downtown for an evening of fun and frolic.

Alycia and Mario are a pretty fun loving couple. (Please see picture above.) They are energetic, funny and totally awesome. I kept thinking, “I should have taken TWO vitamins today just to keep up with these crazy kids!” They were up for anything, and willing to have a great time. So, yeah, I’m totally in love with them.

We went all over downtown, went from casual beachy outfits to super cute “out on the town” red polka dot dress and red tie outfits, and had a great time doing it all. Alycia and Mario are soccer fans, and loved the idea of playing a quick game while in their “going out” clothes. I love it when couples have ideas for their engagement sessions and wedding shoots. It’s so much more fun for everyone when people let the real them shine through. Alycia and Mario had no problem there!

I have so many people ask me how I manage to get people looking so in love, and how the heck I know when to take a picture where people do something so obviously spontaneous. The answer to that question is right here.

My beloved Dustin!

The reason I know when someone is going to kiss, or laugh or look at someone like they can’t live without them is because I have been so blessed to marry a man I am 100% completely totally PASSIONATELY in love with and we kiss, laugh and look at each other like that all the time! So I know how it feels to be all crazy in love with the person of your dreams, and I think it helps me photograph people in love too.

I just wanted to show off this cute picture of my HOT husband from an engagement session we did in San Francisco over the weekend. I love you Dustin! You are my friend.

Last Sunday Bija and I headed up to Auburn for Jennifer and Ben’s engagement session. Seriously, how much do we love these two? SO much! We started the night out at Jennifer’s parents home where their wedding will be held in September. It is a beautiful home, and the perfect place for a wedding. Jennifer is one lucky girl. We took some fun pictures of the gorgeous couple around the grounds, as well as playing a little shuffleboard. We even took some “family pictures” with their new puppy. It was a total blast!

As the sun went down, Jen and Ben (do I dare call them Bennifer?? Because I really, really want to.) changed into some “going out” clothes and we headed into Old Auburn. On the way there we found the COOLEST abandoned gas station ever! Of course, I made us turn around and go back because I couldn’t resist photographing at such a cool location.
