Jessica and Keith {eSession}

First of all, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! We have had such a great time hanging out with our family and friends over the last couple of days. We have so very much to be thankful for, and our amazing clients are definitely high on that list. We are so happy to know so many amazing people, and can’t properly express our gratitude for you all. I also wanted to thank everyone who made our first annual Black Friday Sale and huge success! We can’t wait to get you all your amazing canvases! Now, onto the real reason for this post - Jessica and Keith!

Wonderful Jessica and Keith. When they walked into the studio to chat about the possibility of me photographing their wedding this coming January I instantly fell in love with them. They were hip, stylish and REALLY funny. Plus, they remind me a lot of me and Dustin. Girl who loves fashion and all things sparkly falls for cute, green-eyed boy who is quite-ish and very thoughtful. When they invited me to be their photographer, I did a little dance right there in my office. Dustin and I got together with them a few weeks ago to rock out their engagement session. Despite the fact they’re currently living in Las Vegas, they are getting married here in Sacramento and wanted their engagement portraits here as well. They only had one weekend they could come out for their engagement session, and that weekend it just so happened to be pouring rain. Despite the inclement weather we went ahead with their shoot, and I am so happy we did. Driving rain and winds forces you to be pretty darn creative - especially when one of your subjects is wearing white raw silk.

We made our way around some fun parts of the downtown area. I am so happy that I have a little obsession with umbrellas. We sure needed them! Jessica and Keith were so awesome despite how cold and wet everything was. They let me drag them onto the roofs of buildings, and into cold parking garages. They braved the steps of the Capital, and running across streets with clogged drains. But in the end, it was really great and we made some images I am just so stinking proud of.

A huge thank you to the wonderful Jessica and Keith for being so awesome, and so adventurous. I can’t wait until January and your beautiful wedding! We are going to have so much fun! I have already started telling the universe that it can’t rain, you’ve endured enough of that. Thank you so much for inviting Dustin and I to be a part of this really special time in your lives together. We are so grateful for the opportunity to know you!

    I love the canvas idea. I really think that shot you took in New York would look good on a canvas and on MY wall for Christmas. How many hints can I give you??

Lukas Jaxon {Newborn Portraits}

Seriously! Could Lukas be ANY CUTER? No, he probably couldn’t because if he was it would be too much for me to handle! He is such an adorable baby and I love that I get to take his picture for… well… the rest of my life.

Lukas was born on September 27th, 2008 and weighed in at a whopping 10 pounds 8 ounces. After he got home he had a little bit of the jaundice, so I didn’t get to take these pictures until he was almost 2 weeks old. But honestly, it worked out perfectly. It was such fun being around this perfect baby. Lukas is so even tempered! He just let me move him around and pretty much do whatever I needed. I love it when babies are like that!

Karlene and Shawn are very happy to have their beautiful baby boy home, and we are so happy for them. Lukas is a baby that means a lot to a lot of people. And I can’t tell you how happy I am for my friends. There is something incredibly special that happens when you have a child. I remember with the most clarity of any memory the feeling I had the day after Lauren was born. I remember watching Dustin walk through the door of my hospital room, and hearing Lauren breath as she slept on my chest, and there was just this feeling - like my heart would burst it was filled with so much love. “She makes me love you even more,” I told Dustin that day. “She makes me feel so much more love than I ever thought possible.” That was the feeling in Karlene and Shawn’s house as we took these photos of their beautiful baby boy. There was more love, more joy, more hope than anywhere else in the whole world.

We had a wonderful time taking pictures, chatting about his newborn personality and how things were going. It is entirely true that everything a baby does is fascinating - even the unpleasant things. But there is nothing unpleasant about this little boy. He is full of this wild hope - it just pours off his skin. I can’t wait to watch him as he grows. He is bound to be a reader with parents like his, and smart and inquisitive. He will question probably everything everyone tells him, and with any luck he will be a great guitarist because I have a little LJ of my own who is honing her drum skills to be ready to start their band in a few years.

Thank you to Shawn and Karlene for letting me photograph you during this really exciting time. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be a witness to this stage. I love you both, and am so happy for you and your family. Lukas is a joy! I can’t wait to watch him - and you - grow!

The Camacho Family {Portraits}

November 24th, 2008
Filed under: Family Portraits, Personal

It’s no secret that I love my best friend Jill. She and I have been friends for a REALLY long time, and I honestly have visions of us as old ladies in rocking chairs yelling at grandchildren together. How much fun will that be? LOADS! Because I love Jill as much as I do, I also happen to be head over heels for her beautiful little family. She met her husband Alonso when we were in high school, and I still have such vivid memories of their first few months of dating. Who would have thought that 11 years later they would be happily married with two amazing daughters?

I won’t lie, I’ve been sitting on this blog post for a while. I REALLY wanted it to on our new site, so it’s been a month or so since I took these pictures. Nonetheless, I love them because they are SO representative of this amazing family. Jill and Alonso have been seriously blessed with two of the most amazing kids ever. Paige and Abby are smart, funny and so freaking beautiful it’s almost not fair. And really, just because I am their Fairy Godmother I am not biased at all!

I love watching Jill and her family together. They make me really excited for the coming years with my own family. Paige is in her first year of middle school, and HELLO! Can I just tell you how much that freaks me out. I can’t tell you all the crazy things her mom and I did when we were in middle school. Here’s hoping Paige is smarter about boys, and staying up too late and eating WAY too much pizza. Actually, let’s be honest the too much pizza came in high school when Jill (and two other of our friends) worked at a pizza parlor. But I digress. And Abby, my monkey, is such an old soul. That girl is strong willed to the max - she is the only 6 year old I have ever had an actual argument with. And honestly, I think she won. But she is still one of my favorite people on the planet.

From 2nd grade to our 30’s Jill has been by my side and I can’t thank her enough for that. I am so grateful she married a man who is okay with sharing her with me, and that her daughters only think I’m a little bit crazy. The Camacho’s are as much my family as anyone who shares my DNA, and for that I am so grateful. I can’t wait to see what the next 25 years of our friendship hold.

Jill, Alonso, Paige and Abby - WE LOVE YOU! Thanks for being so freaking cool it hurts, and for having so much fun with your pictures. You guys mean the world to us, and we can’t imagine life without you. Check out their slideshow below for more awesome images!

    I could go on and on about how wonderful you are…both as a friend and a photographer. :) You already know how excited I am for these pictures, but I don’t think I could accurately express how much I LOVE these pictures. They are amazing…especially because you captured us so well. We are a quirky, unconventional family, but your vision and artistic talent totally rock those aspects. And really, I don’t think Abby would’ve smiled like she did with anyone else besides you.

    I love you tons…thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for capturing these memories of my family.

    Sarah, I’ve slowly been making my way through your portfolio here and, I have had more than a few occasions where I’ve caught my breath. You have a true talent. It was awesome to see Jill & Alonso. It’s been awhile, maybe even graduation, hehe. Their daughters are beautiful. I only wish I lived in CA still, as I’d love to have you take our family portraits. Maybe you can take a trip out to MI!! :D
