My Dad {personal}

As some of you know my dad passed away this week. It was expected, and honestly it happened just the way he wanted. He was home, my mom was there and he had seen all of his grandchildren and children. I know that for the first time in 20 years he is free of pain. I know that he is with my sister. I know that I will see him again someday. Even still, my heart is broken.

My dad taught me a lot of things. He taught me how to be funny, and how to laugh at just about everything. He taught me how to love and how to be loved. I wasn’t always nice to him, and we definitely did not see eye to eye on a lot of things but I love him all the same. There will always be a hole now – and there will always be something missing. But I am grateful for the time we had with him. I am so grateful that he danced with me at my wedding, that he got to see my daughter and she got to love her grandpa. I am so grateful that he is my dad… because no matter what he will always be a part of me. I will always have his eyes like my daughter has mine… and that’s the way it will go on… that’s the way we will go on. Knowing that no matter what, there are still pieces of him in all of us.

Thank you all for being patient with me. I won’t be returning emails of phone calls with any consistency right now. His memorial service will be this Wednesday afternoon, and once that is finished hopefully I will be able to get back into my groove. I’m doing my best and I thank you all for your understanding and patience. To my dear friends who have poured out their love on me and my family I cannot thank you enough. I feel so blessed to have you all in my life. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and thoughtful gestures. It means the world to me.

Dad… I love you, and I will miss you a lot.
