It’s Christmas in July, y’all! I am SO excited to share Emma and Kyle’s Sacramento Turn Verein Wedding with you!! You may remember Emma and Kyle from the editorial shoot we did with them for Real Weddings Magazine last year. I feel in love with them instantly! They were fun and so in love with each other. Photographing them for the magazine was a joy! I was so excited when they reached out to me a few months later about their wedding. Their photographer had fallen through, and since we both loved working with each other they gave me a call! My excitement levels rose to a bajillion when they told me their wedding was in December (amazing light!) at the Turn Verein (brick for days!) and was “Moonrise Kingdom” themed (how cute are they?) . Emma and Kyle put loads of work into their day. The details we not only beautiful, but they delighted all of their guests. They used the joyousness of the season and added trees, woodland creatures, and oh so many twinkle lights to their decor. It made for lovely photos, sure, but better than that it made the whole space feel warm and inviting. It was a joy to witness this day for this beautiful couple and their incredible group of humans. What was the most memorable moment of your day?
Emma and I had discussed having a “First Look” before the actual ceremony so that we could have a sweet moment where it was just the two of us, on our Best Day Ever. Our “First Look” took place in the Turn Verein’s library and when I entered the room it was such a perfect moment, finally getting to see my beautiful bride! Emma looked absolutely gorgeous and it was such a beautiful moment seeing her smile and I wanted every second to last forever. It reminded me of our first date, of all our adventures, the day I proposed to her, and here it was our wedding day finally! In that moment it really was just us two, reveling in the fact that we were so close to being married and that it was actually happening. That moment was pure joy, just laughter and smiles with my very best friend, and it was worth every moment of waiting and dreaming. (Kyle)
What was your favorite image from your wedding and why do you love it best? (photo above)
We love this picture because it captures our day rather effortlessly; it’s dreamy and emotional even with the deadpan expressions. In that way it kind of reminds me of the last scene of The Graduate, where they’re on the bus after they run away, and they both are so emotive in a strangely subdued way. The library was a really fantastic spot for photos, and very personal to the both of us as well. (Both of us)
Do you have any advice for other couples planning their wedding?
Take a breath. Steal your joy in this process, in all of its ridiculous, messy stress. It’s unbelievably worth it, and the moment you see your other half at the other end of the aisle really is better than any dream you could have about that day. (Emma)
If you could do it all over, would you change anything about your wedding?
I’d probably fix the part where the music cut out exactly at the big guitar part of Bohemian Rhapsody! Everyone, and I mean everyone, was singing that song, and as if it were some kind of hilarious movie moment, it cut off right at the worst place ever. The collective groan of almost a hundred people following that still rings in my ears… All in all though, it was such a perfect day, and even though little things happened here and there, nothing could have taken away that joy from us. Where did you honeymoon?
We are taking a late honeymoon very soon actually, to Carmel-by-the-Sea! (Both of us)
