Sweet, wonderful Hannah and Shane! These two had one gorgeous, love soaked Blue Goose Event Center Wedding. I mean, has there ever been a bride who smiled as much and as beautifully as Hannah? Probably not!  She was ear to ear grinning from the beginning to the end of her wedding day.  Shane was the biggest reason for those grins – but the hosts of awesome humans who love them both had something to do with it too!  This beautiful couple was surrounded by those who adore them as they said I do!  Photographing these loves was a total joy! After their first look we headed over to Griffith Quarry for some quiet time, private vows and pretty pictures. Then is was back to the venue for a touching ceremony and rockin’ reception!  Check out these beauties and their lovely wedding day!  Hannah shared some insight into their wedding and I just love what she had to say!  Congratulations to these love birds!!

Do you have any advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Planning a wedding can obviously be stressful but having people that are helping you and supporting you through it is everything. My family really stepped up to help us create the wedding of our dreams and it was everything I could have imagined and more. I remember the number one comment everyone would say is how beautiful everything was.

What was the most memorable moment of your day?

The anticipation of our ceremony was the most memorable to me. I loved getting to see Shane beforehand since we did a first look, which I definitely recommend! It helped calm my nerves and we shared our vows together alone which was so special to us.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything about your wedding?

We just wish time could have stopped for a while so we had more time to say hi and talk with everyone. Besides that nothing really at all it was such a magical day full of family, friends, and God’s love. We are so blessed!

What was your favorite image from your wedding and why do you love it best?

How can we just pick one? Well if we had to pick one it would be the one that was used for our gallery cover. I’m so happy we ended up staying nearby for our golden hour pictures and this photo just hits the nail on the head with everything the gorgeous sunset and the way we are holding each other and gazing into each other’s eyes with pure joy and happiness. I don’t think there’s one photo where I wasn’t smiling or laughing.

Where did you honeymoon?

We mini-mooned in South Lake Tahoe! It was so relaxing and fun! We literally slept so much the first couple days and enjoyed our cute little Airbnb. It was so nice to get away even though it wasn’t too far from home. Our favorite part was enjoying the lake and riding the Lime scooters around the casinos.

If you hang out around my Instagram you may have seen some stories this past July from our trip to the Northern California coast and redwoods.  We were there with our kiddos and family friends because these two lovely humans were eloping! I had been chatting with Alexa and Eric for a few months by phone as they prepared to travel in from the midwest to say their I Do’s in a Redwoods National Park elopement.  These two have such joy and so much heart.  Being part of their wedding was amazing.  Dustin married them on a patch of trail they had found the day before.  It was nothing short of glorious.  Every time i photograph and elopement my heart is so full.  The intimacy of a moment like this and the gravity it holds are not lost on me.  Choosing to be married in such a setting is so special.  I can’t begin to tell you how honored we always are on days like these.  Alexa was kind enough to answer a few questions about eloping and why they chose that route for their big day.  Read on to find out more about all the things that made this day so special.  Congratulations to this beautiful pair!

What was the most memorable moment of your day?

The emotions throughout the day stand out in my memory more than any specific moment. I remember the feeling of giddiness and anticipation to walk down the “aisle” and read my vows when hiding behind a tree after changing into my wedding dress and then feeling so calm and content throughout the ceremony like we were in the perfect place.

Elope! Just kidding, kind of. It may not be for everyone but for us it was perfect. I think figuring out what your priorities are can help guide where you focus your energy. For us, while planning a more traditional wedding we realized our commitment to each other, and then having great photos to help us remember the day 🙂 was most important, which led us to look into eloping.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything about your wedding?

I sat considering this question for some time. I cannot imagine getting married any other way, the intimacy of eloping was perfect for us. I also probably would have just bought flowers from a grocery store or florist the day of instead of ordering a specific bouquet over the phone.

What was your favorite image from your wedding and why do you love it best?

It is so hard to choose favorites, there are so many beautiful photos. Our inability to decide has literally delayed us displaying the photos around our home! A good problem to have I guess.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  This is also why I offer wedding flowers in my elopement collections.  I can’t imagine trying to plan an elopement and then worrying about trying to find a florist and all that! Plus, I work with only the coolest florist ever for elopements – Flourish!

I really love engagement sessions.  But I especially love engagement sessions that start with tapas and sangria and are filled with so much love and laughter.  Autumn and Shaun made some magic during their Engagement Session in Midtown Sacramento – and not just because of the yummy treats!  We started our evening together at Tapa the World in Midtown. These two are funny, and warm and so very connected to each other. There was an easiness about them that made me feel right at home.  These two are so much fun and made their session a joy!  We walked all over midtown searching out the good light and loads of color.  I wanted this session to have as much magic as these two do!!  It was so much fun getting to know them, hearing their stories, and capturing just how much their love shines so brightly for each other.  We were blessed with great light and a fairly cool July evening.  Truth be told, I was sad when the light left us and we had to stop taking photos!  There is something very magical about a summer evening spent with people so very much in love.  I am really excited about their wedding this weekend at The Heirloom Inn.  It will be my first time photographing a wedding there!  I always love photographing at new places because the possibilities are endless! It looks like we will be blessed once again with good light and great weather as this beautiful couple begins their marriage!  I can’t wait!  Until then, here are some of my favorite images from our evening together in Midtown Sacramento!

I am SO excited to share Kelly and Nick’s wedding today!  This summer I had the chance to photograph this incredible couple at one of my favorite venues on earth.  Kelly and Nick are such lights and it is so wonderful to be in their presence.  After getting to know them better at their engagement session in Redding last year I could hardly wait for their big day!  It did NOT disappoint.  There was all my favorites – laughter, tears, kisses, high fives and oh so much love!  (The fact that Nick’s fire fighter buddies took their shirts of during dancing that night didn’t hurt either.) We got a beautiful day in the Capay valley and a whole bunch of folks who came to love and support this happy couple. Kelly took the time to answer some of my questions about her wedding day and I love the answers she shared.  One of the things I hear again and again is that couple’s wish they had stressed less during the planning of their wedding.  While I don’t think stress is totally unavoidable, it’s definitely something we could all do with a little of.  If there is one thing I’ve learned over all my years photographing weddings it’s that things will fall into place and everything will work out.  There is sure to be a snag or two here and there, but I promise you won’t remember them too clearly as time marches on, and more often than not they become a funny memory instead of a tragic one.  So, take a deep breath – it’s all going to work out!  And here’s some photographic evidence of just how awesome a wedding can be!  Congratulations Kelly and Nick!! And thanks for letting me be part of all the magic of your wedding!

Do you have any advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Don’t sweat the small stuff! Also, a great photographer makes all the difference- paired with a great DJ, they run the show!

EDITOR’S NOTE: Kelly and Nick obviously hired a pretty great photographer, but they hired a whole team of awesome vendors who love working together! I feel like that’s the secret sauce to a pulling off a great wedding! The staff at Taber is amazing and always know how to take care of not only you and your guests but the vendor team too!  And if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a billion times, your DJ is SUCH an important part of your wedding and can really make or break things!  Whenever I get to work with the awesome humans of SJ’s Disc Jockey I know it’s going to be a GREAT event!

What was the most memorable moment of your day?

Honestly, our couple session with Sarah! We did not do a first look, so this was the first time we had some one-on-one time together. It was so special and fun yet intimate. Sarah captured all of the love and happiness of our day- and we just got to be ourselves and love on each other. Our ceremony was so special– but our couples session gave us a chance to just take it all in and just have some time alone (with Sarah catching it all from a distance of course).

EDITOR’S NOTE: My favorite moment of this time with this beautiful pair was the beginning – because Nick was STARVING!  I remember all too well my hungry husband after our own wedding ceremony while we were trying to take pictures. It was a… challenge to get him to focus.  That is why I carry extra protein bars in my bag at every wedding.  Yes, I gave Nick a protein bar and yes, it made him much more fun to photograph. 🙂 Moral of the story – no one should be photographed hungry.  This concludes my TED Talk. You’re welcome.

The couple’s OTHER favorite photo.

What was your favorite image from your wedding and why do you love it best?

It is impossible to pick only one favorite photo– but I love these two because I feel like it shows the love and happiness we felt on that day! These two are different but I love both the black and white and the lighting in the color photo- and the details with the water spraying- stunning!

Also, my husband is just so handsome with those dimples. 🙂

EDITOR’S NOTE: I 100% agree about Nick’s dimples.  Can you two please have one million babies and then call me to take their photos?

I would want to stress less about the timeline and be more present!

I got to Lindsay and Kyle’s Oakland California engagement session a little early.  Driving to the Bay Area from Sacramento always makes me a little nervous. You never know what traffic is going to look like.  Blessedly, things went perfectly and when I pulled up near where we planned to meet there was an open parking spot just waiting for me.  That parking spot was in front of a small, independent  book store which I was happy to spend time looking through while I waited for the appointed hour of our session.  I walked out of that bookstore with a pack of Tarot cards I’d been thinking about buying for a while.  I’m grateful for those cards and learning more tarot and I am super grateful for this couple and all the light and love they are pouring into the world.  As with most engagement sessions these days, this was the first time I was meeting Lindsay and Kyle face to face.  I was so excited to meet them! Lindsay and I had talked for a long time via FaceTime when she first reached out.  She had shared their love story with me and it just blew me away.  In its most condensed version it is this – the whole universe conspired for them to find each other.  I was excited to see them together and get to know them.  Also as with most engagement sessions these days, we ended up spending the first hour of our time together chatting over a drink and getting to know each other.  It was joyous to see them together, to hear about their families and friends and the plans for their wedding.  Then it was time to walk around their neighborhood and make some pretty pictures.  I was basically a kid in a candy store with the variety of visual beauty their neighborhood held.  These two needed no help loving each other.  They were more than happy to cuddle in, laugh big, and have a great night together.  I was so glad I got to be there photo it all!  And I am especially excited to get on the road tomorrow for their lovely wedding at Leonard Lake Reserve… one of my favorite venues ever!
