Dustin and I met on April 15, 2005 at a REALLY bad birthday party for a friend of ours. It was, possibly, THE most BORING party EVER. I don’t remember speaking to him at the party, but I do remember the “family emergency” he got a phone call about that gave him an excuse to leave far earlier than I. He called me and asked me out on a date the next day. I said, “Who is this?” But after a little reminding I agreed to a date the next night, and really, we haven’t been apart since. We got engaged on April 30, 2005. Yeah, you read that right; it’s not a typo. Fifteen days from meeting to agreeing to marriage. On August 25, 2005 we were officially husband and wife. What can I say? When you know you know, right?

While we were engaged Dustin came to assist me at what was supposed to be the last wedding I would ever photograph. I had been photographing weddings since my freshman year of college, and was feeling a wee bit on the burnt out side. When we drove away from the wedding that night Dustin looked at me and said, “Sarah, you were born to do this.” With that the wheels were set in motion and Sarah Maren Photography was taken to a whole new place.

I have spent my life studying art and photography and Dustin has spent his entire life studying computers. I took my first picture at 7; he built his first computer program at 6. We seem to balance each other out a lot thanks to the interests we had growing up. While I went to college and got a degree in art history, he got his in computer engineering. When we met, I was still a film purist, and kind of looked down my nose at digital cameras. He was able to introduce me to the amazing capabilities of digital photography and post processing. Digital photography has allowed me to do so much more with my images than I when I shooting film. I love not only the process of taking the picture, but I also really love the process of MAKING the image in post processing. Dustin built me one heck of a speedy computer too. It’s got every bell and whistle ever thought of! Dustin didn’t know much about photography when we first got together, but he has come a LONG way in a short time. He is really into the technical side of things and is a lighting genius. He pushes me to think more about my images and really see things in a whole new way. I love shooting with my very best friend and person I love best.

In October 2006 Dustin and I had our beautiful daughter Lauren Jillian. Well, to be honest I did most of the work, but Dustin was extremely supportive. Lauren has changed us loads and every bit of it is for the better. She is bursting with personality and sass. She is so interested in EVERYTHING and has helped us see the world in a whole new light. She is hands down the best thing we have ever made.

I can’t tell you how blessed we feel to have our little family. We love each other so much, and I think it’s that love for each other that helps us recognize it in others. We love weddings because we remember the feeling of our own wedding day and more than anything we want you to be able to look at your wedding pictures and remember exactly how you felt at that moment. We want you to have the same feeling the first time you see your images and the 500th time. We are dedicated to our clients, and their love for each other. Because of this dedication to quality images and customer service we only take a limited number of weddings and portrait sessions every year. When we’re not shooting or editing you can find us bbq’ing in the backyard, going to the park, or playing Rockband on our PS3. That’s our story! We’d love to hear yours.
