“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.”

Kimberlee is a pretty incredible person. She lights up any space she’s in – bigger than her body with energy pouring off her like water. She is clever and kind, funny and confident. She is a joy and a half to photograph. And this summer she will be a high school graduate. We talked for over an hour about what she wanted her senior portrait session to be. We had SO many ideas and trains of thought that just chugged out of the station. We could hardly keep up! At the end of our planning session we had decided on Auburn and the trails she so loves to hike. We’d start in downtown Auburn, then head to the trails. It went perfectly. The weather was amazing, there was no one around on a midweek afternoon, and Kimberlee was perfection. We scaled rocks, waded into the river, drove until we found the perfect spot for the unexpectedly perfect sunset. And we made pictures that free this moment – this thin slice of Kim’s life where she is still safely nested at home while she builds strength in her wings and gets ready to soar. I can’t wait to see how far this beauty flies.
