There are photographers out there who hate doing extended family photos. Actually, I used to be one of them! But something in my heart has changed the older I get. Maybe it’s because my kids are getting older. Maybe it’s because I can see glimpses of the future in the family I have and the families I love. Whatever it is, I am glad it has happened. I am especially glad that it got me to make these Bay Area family portraits with a wonderful family I have had the pleasure of photographing before. Almost a decade ago I was the photographer at Jamie and Joel’s wedding. I feel in love with them and their families. Jamie and I have been Facebook pals since then (she is in fact the person who convinced me to sign up for Facebook!) and it has been such a pleasure watching her and Joel create a beautiful family. I was so honored when Jamie reached out to me to photograph her whole family. She and her brother wanted to make a gift of family photos to their mother, and of course, I was on board. Dustin and I spent a late summer morning with this beautiful family making loads of images I just adore. I loved seeing Jamie and Joel’s wedding album so proudly displayed in their home as well! It always does my heart good to see the memories I’ve helped family preserve – especially so many years later. But the real thing that makes my heart all aflutter is being asked to document moments again and again. Thank you just doesn’t seem like enough for all the happiness this wonderful family has brought me. But thank you all the same dear Johnston family. It was my great joy to make these images with you.
