I can’t believe a whole year has passed since Grace was born! You may remember her from her Fresh 48 and Newborn sessions last summer. Grace’s amazing parents have been the MOST wonderful clients I could ask for! I photographed their wedding almost seven years ago and I have so loved being part of the growth of their family. Grace is a beautiful girl! She is also a classic one year old who takes a little bit to warm up to strangers. We decided to start her one year cake smash session with some outdoor family portraits so she could warm up to me. As expected, she was a bit standoffish at first, but before long we were old pals and she was giving me the smiles her mama and daddy are used to seeing. Grace is SO tall for her age! Luckily, I’m used to giant babies as that’s the kinda babies I grow. We had a wonderful time exploring nature and getting some fun photos of this much loved girl. Then we headed over to the studio to get our cake smash on! This was Grace’s first experience with cake – and fruity pebbles for that matter. Grace’s grandpa loves to make cakes and was in charge of this lovely confection. As most one year old’s don’t have that much experience with cake, sometimes the cake smash can be a bit daunting. Never before have they had a huge sugary treat placed before them and the instructions to go wild on it given. It can be a little awkward for these tykes. That’s why I schedule the shoot with lots of time for cake exploration and discovery – and parent intervention. Let’s be real. After wanting to share her sweet treat with all of us (like the well mannered lady she is) Grace finally got into the fun of smashing her cake with a little help from daddy. I love the outfit Frances chose for her! It was perfect! Happy birthday to sweet Grace! Check out the slideshow video at the bottom of the post for more fun from this shoot!!
