Taylor and Michael’s wedding was a reason for non-stop grinning. Even now – looking through their photos again and reading their responses to some questions I asked them – I find myself grinning from ear to ear. Getting to make these downtown Sacramento wedding photos with these two and their rad family and friends was such a joy! Their wedding day was filled with so much laughter and joy! It was lovely to be around so many people who love them so much. As an added bonus to all that awesome, I was lucky enough to work with some of my favorite vendors in Sacramento. This wedding was beautifully designed and coordinated by Kate Whelan Events, hair and makeup perfection was brought to us by the amazing Christi Reynolds and we danced the night away thanks to Joe of DeBorba Events. I loved this wedding and adore this couple. They were awesome enough to answer a few questions and share how their wedding day was for them – what a gift! Read on for more from this wonderful couple!
What was the most memorable moment of your day?
Michael: My favorite moment was getting to tease Taylor a bit for criticizing pumpkin in our vows only to then make her laugh about it in the next line. It felt good to break up the stress of all the weeks of prep leading to this moment.
Taylor: I also think that Michael’s vows were one of the most memorable moments to me – mostly because we didn’t share our vows before but instead agreed to make a few promises to each other. He went second and was actually really funny (not surprisingly!) and got some real reactions out of me! That aside, since he also picked this memory, I would also say the small moments we were able to share with our friends and family from out of town over our wedding weekend were also memorable. We truly have some amazing people in our lives and being around them, soaking up all the love, was SO wonderful and is something I’ll treasure. Also, who doesn’t love getting glammed up?! I also loved the casual getting ready vibes and our fabulous glam team who made us all feel confident and relaxed! It was also so nice for my family and close friends to be able to stop by and say hello 🙂
What was your favorite image from your wedding and why do you love it best?
Taylor: Everything I wanted from taking photos around there! I walk down that path to work and always thought it would be perfect for wedding photos! Can I just say all of them?!?! Also, our engagement photos are amazing too! And, you captured our dog, Sampson, and our love of craft beer so well!
Do you have any advice for other couples planning their wedding?
Taylor: Just know when to let go… cue the Let it Go song 🙂 In addition to my love of making lists, we did a lot of DIY-things, and eventually after (I was) stressing out over something insignificant, like whether something was the perfect shade of mauve, I eventually just had to put my hands up and let it go and remember the big picture objectives of the wedding: the love Michael and me share and our commitment to one another. Also, everyone wants to help and loves feeling included. It was really fun to have people involved in little ways and as much as they could help. Did I mention how amazing our friends and family are? Also, we had SUCH amazing vendors and I felt super confident in their abilities – we were not disappointed and it was such a relief to have so many dependable, professional, and fun people to work with! Also, be realistic with your pinterest photos in relation to your budget and maybe use some pins to show vendors things you don’t necessarily like in addition to things you do like. I am obsessed with the florals on our arch and the vegetables that were worked into our arrangements – it sounded crazy, but our floral team rocked it! Michael and his Grandpa made our arch for the wedding and it was so nice to have it dressed up for the big day!
Michael: Taylor eventually let go because we ran out of time, not from some deep internal reflection, so don’t feel bad if it’s hard to let go. My advice would be to make time for seeing people before the wedding. Some of our friends and family came a few days before to experience some of the things we love to do around town. We didn’t realize how awesome this was until after our wedding looking back at it. We were able to spend quality time with everyone over the weekend and didn’t have to go table to table to say hi (except the few that couldn’t make it until the big event itself). We just got to have fun with everyone and enjoy it!
If you could do it all over, would you change anything about your wedding?
Michael: I think I would have delegated more. Taylor and I both like doing things ourselves and are bad at asking for help. We are surrounded by such amazing people; I would lean on them more.
Taylor: Honestly, I just wish I could have had more time! Or, one of those Harry Potter time turners? The day went so fast and was so fun! I just had to take deep breaths and stay in the moment and continue to be thankful for so much love coming from all sides!
Where did you honeymoon?
We went on a quick mini-moon to Portland! We are both big craft-beer drinkers and had fun visiting some favorite breweries and a few new ones, too!
Thanks to Taylor and Michael for being so awesome with answering my questions so dang thoughtfully and for being such an incredible couple!
