Jake Loves Cake!

To say that I adore this kid is really, REALLY an understatement.  I freaking ADORE Jacob.  Mostly, that is because I freaking adore his amazing parent Nicole and Rob.  It started when they were in a wedding I photographed, the I photographed their wedding, then I was there when this beautiful baby boy was born and now, a YEAR LATER (how did that happen?!?!) we got together to make some photos of this handsome boy as he gets ready to turn one on Friday. I have been doing cake smash photos for a while now and I have to say, Jake KILLED this!  One year old’s aren’t always super interested in doing things like smash cake and eat it.  Sometimes it can be scarey! I mean, how many times has your baby had a giant cake in front of them? Probably never.  And then we are in the studio, they are exposed and almost naked, there is a baked good and a weird lady with a big black box in front of her face sitting in front of them and they can sense all their parents hopes and dreams for this shoot.  It’s a lot of pressure for a one year old.  A LOT of pressure.  Most kids take a swipe or two at the cake, look at their parents with that “What do you want from me?” look and then they are done.  This was NOT the case for Jake.  I have NEVER had a baby be THIS enthusiastic about cake – EVER.  He dove in!  It took only one taste of sweet frosting for him to know that cake was were the action was!  He took to it with reckless abandon and I had the best time photographing it!  After such a triumphant cake smash I was worried he would not be interested in family photos.  But we cleaned the little guy off and headed to the creek for an afternoon photo shoot with his profoundly proud mom and dad.  And he was awesome! Because, he’s Jake and he is just too good to be true.  Once again I am so blown away by the gratitude I have for my clients who have welcomed me into every stage of their growing life.  It is such a joy to record these milestone. It is such an honor to witness the history of a family being written.  Nicole and Rob, you two did SO good.  Thanks for letting me be there to record his incredible awesomeness.
