When I went to Photo Field Trip this spring I met the incredible Yan Palmer (and by “met” I mean I wept openly in the front row of her class and she handled my emotional outburst graciously and lovingly thus cementing her in my heart forever.) I love the beautiful work she produces and was so excited that she would be coming to San Francisco to do a workshop. I have been shooting film so much more this year, and really working with it in my family sessions and I am so in love with it. I was even more excited when I heard she was looking for a family to photograph in San Francisco because I thought my beautiful friend (and incredibly talented photographer) Robyn would be PERFECT! And you guys, SHE WAS!! Spending a day with Yan, Robyn and some other incredible photographers was a dream. I rode to San Francisco with my friends Ashlee and Jeanie and it was just the thing I needed – to be surrounded by wonderful, creative people trying to make their work even better. Being a small business owner is so lonely sometimes. It was such a joy to feel the energy and support of my fellow artists. One of the highlights of they day was getting to shoot Robyn’s family. Robyn and her husband Shawn have the CUTEST girls. They are beautiful and funny and have personality to spare. I loved making photographs of them! I’m excited to share some of my favorite images from the workshop. I am also excited to start sharing some of the recent work I’ve been doing with family portraits that I’ve shot mostly on film. Thanks to Yan, Robyn and the workshop attendee’s for making this such a wonderful experience. I couldn’t ask for better!
