Confession – being a senior portrait photographer has not always been my favorite. Teenage girls are in such a strange place. The world is telling them what they should be, how they should act, what they should look like and so very often those messages aren’t that great. That gnawing feeling of not being enough has long sat in their bellies by the time they are graduating high school. I so distinctly remember my own senior portrait session – something I put off until the last possible moment – and how awkward and uncomfortable I was just having a camera pointed at me. Photographing girls this age makes my heart heavy. But not this time because I got to photograph this incredible young woman who has been guided by her wonderful mother into adulthood. Isabel stands in her truth like a boss and it is nothing short of glorious. I was SO excited to get together with her this spring to create an incredible set of portraits in honor of her senior year of high school and her 18th birthday. Isabel had plans and ideas for her session and it was a joy to put it all together. We wanted ocean but also rolling hills. There’s no place better for that kind of natural beauty than the marin headlands. We headed to the Point Bonita lighthouse and made some images that captured the incredible spirt and beauty of Isabel. We started off with her spirit wear for the college she decided on – University of La Verne before heading into some more formal and dramatic looks. Of course, we wouldn’t be here celebrating this lovely young woman without the hard work and dedication of her incredible mother so course we had to make some pretty pictures of this dynamic duo. I LOVE this session because I love these humans! Congratulations on a job well done Isabel!!
