Alyssa’s mom, Sonia, called me around spring break to see if I had any spots left for a gradutating senior this year. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to fit another shoot in, but Sonia and I talked on the phone and I KNEW I had to photograph Alyssa. There were just too many tiny twists of fate – too many steps both of us had taken on a long road. Both of our mom’s names are Sonia, we come from a family of one boy and two girls, she had a sister named Sarah and just like me, she lost her dad to prostate cancer. Only Alyssa and her family had to deal with the devestating loss MUCH earlier in their lives than I did. As Sonia and I talked about Alyssa I had to fight back tears. Even with all the loss she’d been through from her fathers aggressive cancer she manages a more than perfect GPA, is a star tennis player and managed a job to help out with her family. It was no suprise to me AT ALL when Sonia told me about all the colleges that had accepeted Alyssa. Alyssa is brains, beauty and heart – the whole package! It was an absoulte joy to take her and her family and place them in front of my camera. We did her Senior Portraits in Roseville CA and it was perfect for her! Nature was in full bloom! Green grass, babbling brook, perfect light and all! I even had Sonia bring the siblings along so we could grab some all important family portraits. I love these pictures because I just love this family. It was such an honor photographing them at this incredible juntion of life. Alyssa, even though we just met my heart is bursting with pride and joy for you! Congratulations! UCLA has one heck of an awesome human headed their way this fall!! I can’t wait to see how you change the world!
